Playing Japanese video games is not the best way to learn Japanese, but it is a good way to relax while still passively increasing your language ability.
Also, some of the most popular games in Japan are rpgs (role-playing games) and adventure games, so there is a lot of text for one to read, and sometimes voice acting. Some games are basically animated choose-your-own adventure novels, and although many of these games are somewhat pornographic, they can provide an interesting way to pass the time.
