Great New Grammar Book, Flash Cards Alone are Not Enough

First, I was in one of the big bookstores in Tokyo last week, and I found a real gem, A Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar. Details are on the 1kyuu page:

Second, I've been increasingly worried about posts I've read online suggesting that software like Mnemosyne is sufficient for learning. While it's indisputably a great asset, it is definitely not the be all and end all. More of my thoughts on this here:

Would "A Dictionary of

Would "A Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar" be useful to a beginner? Are its contents a superset of the contents of the lower-level books of the same series?

No, the Advanced book would not be useful to beginners. As a beginner, you should start with the beginner's book, and work your way up. Unfortunately, that means you'll have to buy all three books in the end.
